Dakota Blue

 Dakota Blue Richards (born 11 April 1994) is an English actress. Her film debut at 13 years of age was in The Golden Compass, as the lead character Lyra Belacqua. The role of April the stumbling teenager in Dustbin Baby, and Maria in The Secret of Moonacre in 2009 were also her lead roles. In 2011 she played Franky Fitzgerald in the third generation of the cast of British teenage drama Skins. She has appeared in roles in film, television and stage. Richards was born at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Fulham Road, London. She was raised in Sussex by her parents who later moved to Newlands School. After going to St Paul's Primary School, she went on to Blatchington Mill School, Hove and KBis Theatre School, Brighton. Later, she said that she wanted to play Lyra. The audition process was awash with 10000 applicants. Philip Pullman (author of the books) told the press, "As soon as I saw Dakota's screen test, I realized that my search was over." Chris Weitz, the director who directed the film, said Richards "made what could have been an extremely difficult decision seem easy.
